Funny Wedding Cake Toppers

Archive for September 2010

Ok, I have to admit.  I have absolutely no idea what kind of orchid this is.  I certainly don't know how to pronounce it, though I can give it a try.

However, I can't go to sleep without posting at least one picture of a cake and Pink Cake Box is one of my favorite places to find the best ones.

And it's not all about the looks.  According to the cake masters themselves, this one was made with:

Flavors included chocolate with hazelnut buttercream, “wine” velvet with vanilla buttercream, and graham cracker cake with s’mores.

Yum!  Time to go dream of flowers and chocolate.

All the best,

Everyone says it's the little details that count.  Check out this beautiful fall themed wedding cake via the blog at Wedding Paper Divas.  It's absolutely elegant and perfectly fits the theme.  But there's one tiny detail that I don't understand.  Bees in the autumn?  Not where I live.  Still, it's very cute and the colors and flowers are a feast for the eyes.

I fall more in love with these photos via Project Wedding every time I look at them. The theme was a Caribbean inspired wedding and the colors give the feeling that you are basking in the tropical sun and swimming in the clear blue water.  I wish.  The unique part of this wedding is that the guests had their own little mini cakes to decorate.  There was an array of brightly colored icings, mini paint brushes and nothing else in the way of your own creativity.

Many readers said that this would be perfect for a bridal shower.  I agree, but why can't wedding guests have fun too?  Is this kind of activity only for girls?  I bet there are a few guys who would dig right in also, so long as they could devour their concoctions afterwards.  I do agree that this would work best at a smaller wedding though.

The big question is – where is the chocolate icing?  I'm not really that interested in icing unless it's chocolate.

I love purple almost as much as pink.  In this photo, one of the readers at Wedding Bee showed a picture of some purple flowers she used to decorate her wedding cake.  I love the effect of the bold purple against the elegant, simple white fondant design on the cake.  Very modern, but with a soft, Spring feel also.  I'll bet you could find some beautiful white invitations with purple flowers to match a theme like this.

What's your favorite flower color?

Check out this giveaway from AisleDash, but act fast since it runs out Friday.

Since the image in my last post didn't show up I thought I'd show you a few more ideas for chocolate wedding cakes.  These are going to have me running to the store to buy some good dark chocolate if I don't get away from my computer pronto.  Thank you to Wedding Wire for these beautiful, scrumptious photos.

Whenever I watch one of the wedding cake shows (a secret passion), I wonder why the brides think that they have to do a white cake rather than chocolate.  Sometimes they think it's to avoid guests' allergies.  Other times, it's the cake chef saying that it's more difficult to hide the darkness of the cake when you want white icing.  I say, if you don't like chocolate then there is something seriously wrong with you and it's the cake chef's problem to make it work.  Here's one way to get around any issues.  Just make it chocolate inside and out and make the flowers white.  I love the idea of having double the amount of chocolate.  Still, buttercream would have been better than fondant and far more decadent.
